Peter of Goldinton grants to D⟨aventry⟩ in free alms 2 virgates of land in Aldessebi of the fee of Cotes, i.e. those 2 virgates which his chapel of Caldessebi formerly held from the day of its dedication. Cold-Ashby. William the skinner and Agnes his wife grant to D⟨aventry⟩ in free alms a cottage and a plot of land in Cold Essebi by the grange of the prior and convent towards the east. Witnesses: Sir Adam vicar of Cold Esseby , Adam fitz-Walter of the same, Walter a la Warre of the same, Roger ad fontem of the same, and Adam le Mundevylle of the same. ⟨c. 1280–90.⟩

Cold-Ashby. Peter, prior of D⟨aventry⟩ , and rector of Cold Essebi , remits to the abbot and c. of Pipewell £3. 6. 0 out of £4. 10. 0 rent for tithes of corn and hay of the lordship, and 3 virgates of land belonging to Pipewell in Coldehasseby, in return for the grant of a part by Pipewell to Augustine le Waleys of Suthrigge and Maud his wife, for their lives. King Henry VIII, by letters sealed, confirms the union and incorporation of the churches or chapels of Hedyngton, Merston, Byndesey, Churchill, Frytewell, Ellsfylde, Wornall, Oclee, Bryll, Borstall, Overwinchindon, Fallewysley, Great [Preston] and Little Preston, Welton, West Haddon, Stratton, Norton, Coldeassheby, Daventre, Throppe, Throppe-Mondewell, Foxston, Stalforde, Byssebroke, Chycheley, Newporte Paynell, Ascewodde, Wyllyn, Sandeforde, Wodde pery, Douton basset, Ragdale, Aston, Bromyngham, Rudeby and Wettwange, in Lincoln, Lichfield, and York dioceses; also annual portions from the churches or parishes of St. Giles without the walls of Oxford, Fulthorn, Beckeley, Lovyngham, Uppelamborn, and Sonyngwell, in the dioceses of Lincoln and Salisbury, formerly belonging to the suppressed monasteries of St. Frideswide, Tyckford, Littlemore, and Canwall; made by Thomas Crumwell, K.G., to King Henry VIII's college in Oxford. A parchment book (bound in 1929), folios 1–11d., about 10½″ × 13″. f. 1. ‘Missus Gabriel de coelis’= Chevalier, Repertorium Hymnologicum no. 11636, which see for references to printed editions. This prose or sequence in honour of the Virgin Mary was in common use from the end of the twelfth century. f. 1. d. A rental of the lands assigned to the Chapel of S. Mary, between 1250–1288. It is here given in full because it provides a terminus ante quem for dating grants of land to the Chapel. ‘Memorandum quod anno domini 1250 in vigilia s. Cold-Ashby. Thomas, prior of D⟨aventry⟩ , leases to Thomas abbot of Pipewell the rectory of Coldeashby for 90 years at £8 a year. On the death of the present vicar, Sir William Simond , they shall also have the vicarage for a further £10 a year. D⟨aventry⟩ may distrain for either of these rents, and if they are not paid within 10 weeks of the due time D⟨aventry⟩ shall receive a fine of 20/-. For every Sunday on which the prior and convent of D⟨aventry⟩ are not ’rehersed and praied for’ in the Church, they shall receive a fine of 12d. 20 March 1492.

Cold-Ashby. N. prior [&c.] of D⟨aventry⟩ grant to William son of Bastian of Esseby a virgate of land in E. not to be alienated to men of religion, to hold from them as his father held it.
